The day I left my childhood was needless to say one of the overall weirdest days of my life. I was caught up in a whirlpool of emotions. While nervous to see what is going to lie ahead of me in my future, I was also excited to begin the journey of life. I was leaving my my childhood and better yet my family and the home I’ve lived in for most of my life. It was a surreal experience that can’t be explained to others until you go through it. Realizing one chapter of my life was ending and another was beginning really opened my eyes to what life is all about. One must push themselves if they want to lead a fulfilling life. However, one of the toughest parts for me personally was leaving all of my hometown high school friends behind. I created such a strong bond with my brothers over the latter half of high school, and it was not fun when I had to say goodbye. I was moving on, coming to Ole Miss. I came here knowing one other person, my roommate. I was essentially starting over. I was nervous at first, but over the past two months I have made friends with many, many people. Fraternity rush is coming up soon, and I am excited to meet the friends I will have for the rest of my life. I made the choice to go out of state for this reason, and I am so glad it is paying off.

As my father proclaimed to me at the end of move-in day, this is the beginning of the rest of my life. Graduation from high school was the ending of one chapter, and this ceremony was the beginning of the next. Convocation formally welcomed us as the class of 2020 into the Ole Miss family. It signified our arrival to the campus and helped make all of the students feel welcomed. The ceremony began with the bringing forth of the head of each academic department. Chancellor Vitter followed with a speech, giving us as a class hope for the journey we were soon to embark on.
