Kayla is an 18-year-old girl who has always had an attraction to the same sex that she couldn’t explain. She had boyfriends in the past, but she never felt anything mentally or sexually towards them. One day, she decided it was time to tell everyone that she’s a lesbian, she had already come to terms with herself as to who she likes. The people she told were her parents. They looked at her as if she had just murdered someone. “No daughter of mine will be seen out in public holding hands with another female” her father said with a disgusted look on his face “Dad it’s not that big of a deal and I refuse to hide who I am. I’ve done it all my life and I’m tired of it. I am 18 and you can’t tell me who to like” Her father pulled her off the couch by her arms “Since you think you old enough to make decisions you are old enough to move out. I want all your stuff out my house in the next hour” he walked away leaving both her and the mother shocked. Her mother just sat there wanting to get up and tell the father that he can’t do that but she knew better than to disagree with him so she just gave Kayla a sympathetic smile and walked away. Her parents are very religious so they couldn’t accept her for who was choosing to like.

Kayla cried as she packed her bags. When she finished she looked around her room for one last time and broke down. She took her things and went to her sister Tracy’s house hoping she would allow her to live with her. Tracy understood how it felt for their parents to turn their back on her. She had a child out of wedlock and even though she was old enough and stable to have a child their parents couldn’t look past the fact that she wasn’t married.
