Growing up, my brother and I were always different. I was always doing things the right way, whereas he was always doing things his way. Merriam Webster Online Dictionary states individualism as “the belief that the needs of each person are more important than the needs of the whole society or group.” Merriam Webster Online Dictionary states that collectivism is “a political or economic system in which the government owns businesses, land, etc.” I believe that my life as a collectivist is way better than my brother Josh’s life as an individualist. During high school, I was a “so-called” star student. I made good grades and barely got in trouble. I had a small group of friends, who always was positive about their education like studying. However, Josh kept making poor grades and constantly skips his classes every other day to smoke marijuana. I was so focus on my education; I manage to maintain a 3.7 GPA in the start of my junior year in high school. On the other hand, my brother Josh averaged a 1.8 GPA and decided to drop out of school later of his sophomore year.

When it comes down to sports, I take basketball very seriously. Being a member of the Mitchell high school boys’ varsity basketball team means a lot to me. I don’t have to worry about any use of equipment and facilities expenses. Team jerseys’, shoes, and meals are all covered by the school. Josh plays golf, which he has to pay green fees at the Whitehaven Clubhouse for him to tee. He also has to pay for his own equipment including golf clubs, shoes, and balls at Sports Authority for a total of $298.45. While still in school, I had to find a way to keep a little change in my pocket for gas and food, so I got a job at Sheikh Shoes at the Southland Mall. My position was a stocking clerk, which is easy money.
