Most guys are into sports heavily and if you don’t participate in a sport than you’re not “cool” I have always been an athletic person and while I did a lot of sports it was for different reasons than others. I didn’t play for the cool points I played because I enjoyed it. One day it all changed and I realized maybe I should go about things differently and find something other than sports. Being completely honest I never had the intention of pursuing a career in sports, so I felt it was time to start figuring out what I wanted to do with my life.

Growing up in Mississippi, there wasn’t much for you to do, so we all would gather in the field and play pickup football, kickball, or baseball. I could remember how competitive the games would be, someone always saying how they were so much better than someone else. Every time I played against my brother he would always say, “You’ll never be as good me.” Once I got to the fifth grade I was tired of playing against the same guys in backyard football, so I decided to try out for the school football team. I was a pretty fast guy so I would get the ball and run as fast as I could. Apparently that was good enough for the coach and I made the team. I was only used to backyard unorganized football, so it took me a while to get used to running plays and playing in an orderly fashion. A few weeks of practicing went by and I finally got in stride with the plays and with the team overall. It was finally time for game day, my first elementary football game. My nerves were so bad; I could feel the sweat running down my face. I would’ve thought I had already played the game. I was sweating so much. I stood up and started pacing back and forth trying to calm myself down. I finally was ready to get out there and play. I quickly lost the “stage fright” once I stepped on the field.
