Writing is a complex process which every human is taught to do, for it is a universal way of transferring information from one mind to another.Throughout history, the art of writing has evolved and with this evolution came those who wished to comprehend the psychological understanding of the writing process.I believe that more and more people wish to know what goes on inside the head of a writer because after one understands how a writer thinks, they then think they know how writing should be taught.Therefore, in my opinion, writing is taught in an analytical and logical way, because researches summarize the mind of a writer in that way.

The first observation I made while putting these connections together is that researchers try to understand the inner thoughts of writers.One person who had a deep explanation of the thoughts of students is Robert J. Sternberg.In his article “Metacognition, Abilities, and Developing Expertise: What Makes an Expert Student?” Sternberg explains what metacognition is and why it is such an important part of what makes students succeed.The power behind the article comes from it being a combination of six studies on metacognition, which together make an identical case that Sternberg explores.With every source Sternberg uses, he claims in some way that thinking about one’s thoughts is important to success.One of these sources, Everson and Tobias, sum the importance of metacognition up nicely by stating “Not only is knowledge important to school success, but so is knowledge about one’s knowledge: one’s estimation of how much one knows.” (Sternberg 3)
